HISTORY

John P. Thayer Sr. founded Thayer Construction in 1965. The Georgia based company has been in business for more than 45 years. In 1970, Thayer Construction completed Wynnton Towers, a seven-story high-rise apartment complex, which was a one of a kind in Columbus. The Wynnton Towers project paved the way to what would become the company’s commercial construction division. With a specialty in multi-family and commercial shopping centers, Thayer Construction has built numerous developments in
Georgia and Alabama.

In 2013, Thayer Construction announced the addition of William Bray, forming Thayer-Bray Construction. This partnership brings more than 75 years of combined experience in the construction industry. William has extensive construction experience in the medical, retail, office and education industries. The company continues to offer a wide-range of construction
services for commercial clients.

Thayer-Bray Construction prides itself on ensuring that all clients receive personal attention, quality workmanship, and excellent customer service. Since its beginnings in 1965 through the present day – a commitment to hard
work and integrity is the company’s foundation.

The Thayer-Bray team assembled for building your dream home is comprised of some of the most experienced and innovative professionals in the construction industry. We take a unique approach to building the team for your project. It isn’t one size fits all. We look at the specific needs of the project as well as the client and determine who will be the best fit for the team. Experience and complexity of the project are factors. We work internally to make certain that the chemistry of the team will complement our client. This is done in an effort to provide you with the best possible outcome and experience. Behind the respected Thayer-Bray name are some of the most innovative people in the industry. P_ThayerJ. Philip Thayer, President

J. Philip Thayer has an extensive background in the construction industry, with more than 22 years of experience. He has worked as an estimator and project manager utilizing his skills in new construction, additions and renovations projects. He is a graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction. Thayer is very involved in our community. He is the past chairman of Columbus Water Works and sits on the St. Francis Hospital and Brookstone School Board of Trustees. Thayer is the past-president of the Columbus Home Builders Association and past-chair of the Phenix City United Way campaign. He and his wife Clair have two children and are members of St. Paul United Methodist Church.

 

 

W_BrayWilliam Bray, Vice President

William Bray has an extensive background in the construction industry, with more than 30 years of experience. His construction management experience includes, project management, estimating and contract negotiation. His broad experience includes, financial, educational, business offices, medical, religious and theatrical facilities throughout Georgia and Alabama. He is a graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction.

Mr. Bray is a member of the Columbus Homebuilders Association, and Wynnton United Methodist Church Board of Trustees and a past-member of the Springer Opera House Board of Directors. He is a past-president of the International Facility Manager’s Association and past-director of the Muscogee Rotary Club. He and his wife Camika have three children and are members of Wynnton United Methodist Church.

 

Gordon-ChismGordon Chism, Estimator

Gordon Chism has an extensive background in the construction industry, with more than 15 years of experience. His construction management knowledge includes, project management, estimating and contract negotiation. His broad range of experience includes, financial, educational, business and medical offices, and religious and theatrical facilities throughout Georgia and Alabama. He is a graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelors of Science in Building Construction.

 

 

 

Randall-HarrisonRandall Harrison , Superintendent

Randall Harrison is a seasoned superintendent with more than 40 years of experience.  He has a wide range of skills including, concrete tilt up, steel frame structures, poured in place column and beam construction and wood framing.  Randall’s background incorporates work for healthcare facilities, institutional, industrial, multi-family and retail.  Randall has ‘hands-on’ know-how directing field staff, resources and activities necessary to successfully complete the project on time and within budget.

 

 

 

VanVan DuPreist , Superintendent

Van DuPriest has a passion for the construction industry.  While completing college, he worked in the corporate environment and was on track to climb the corporate ladder.  However, in the back of his mind, he could not resist the calling back to an industry in which he enjoyed working in the past – construction.  He rejoined the construction industry and has worked in virtually every aspect on the construction site, from laborer to superintendent.  Owners like his calm demeanor and his ability to address their needs in a professional manner.  He is well respected by the subcontractors with which he works as well.  Van is a proved superintendent who always has the best interest of the project in mind, and this shows in the quality he produces.  He has repeat clients specifically request him as a superintendent for their projects.
